US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain this week as the Trump administration intensifies efforts to end the war with Iran. The trip comes amid unease among Gulf countries about a proposed deal between Washington and Tehran.
Bilateral Meetings and Key Topics
The State Department announced that Rubio will hold bilateral meetings with leaders in each country. Discussions will focus on the memorandum of understanding reached last week between the US and Iran, weekend talks in Switzerland between senior Iranian and US officials, and security for American allies and partners in the Middle East, including the status of the Strait of Hormuz.
Regional Priorities and Security
According to a State Department statement, Rubio will discuss “regional priorities” and “efforts to secure full and free safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz, and the importance of peace and stability in the region.” While in Bahrain, he will also meet with Gulf Cooperation Council officials “to discuss shared priorities.”
Separately, AC Vehari reviewed arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, ensuring security and peace during the Islamic month.
