Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and International Finance Corporation (IFC) Pakistan Director Simon Andrews have agreed to explore collaboration in digital infrastructure, renewable energy and other sectors to improve human capital, the Sindh CM’s office said on Monday.
Focus on Digital Infrastructure and Renewable Energy
Pakistan has been rapidly expanding its digital ecosystem through initiatives such as artificial intelligence (AI) cloud systems and quantum-encrypted facilities as it tries to position itself as an emerging regional data hub for Central Asia. In recent years, the South Asian nation has also stepped up efforts to expand renewable energy as it seeks to reduce its reliance on imported fossil fuels, strengthen energy security and address climate change.
During Monday’s meeting, the chief minister highlighted Sindh’s commitment to attracting investment in strategic sectors and discussed the establishment of an international data center in the province as well as expanding renewable energy generation for the private sector.
CM’s Vision for Economic Growth
“We are focused on creating an enabling environment for investment in emerging sectors, particularly digital infrastructure and renewable energy, which are critical for economic growth and job creation,” Shah was quoted as saying by his office.
The two sides also discussed broader development priorities including agricultural value chains, health care, nutrition, skills development, Sindh’s stunting reduction program, children’s health and education, and climate-smart infrastructure.
Support for Small Farmers
Highlighting the challenges faced by small farmers, the chief minister said a large number of farmers in Sindh owned only up to 25 acres of land. “We want to help them mechanize their farming by encouraging neighboring growers to form groups and jointly benefit from government-subsidised tractors,” he said. “When two or three farmers cultivating adjoining lands come together, we can support them with subsidised tractors, enabling them to improve productivity and make better use of their land.”
IFC’s Commitment to Sustainable Development
The IFC official expressed interest in supporting initiatives aimed at improving human capital, particularly in health care, nutrition, and skills development, according to the Sindh CM’s office. He reiterated IFC’s commitment to supporting sustainable and inclusive development initiatives in the province.
“IFC sees significant opportunities to partner with the Government of Sindh in sectors that can generate long-term economic and social impact, including digital infrastructure, renewable energy, agribusiness, health care and human capital development,” Andrews was quoted as saying.
