RISJA Celebrates World Sports Journalists Day with Grand Ceremony
The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) hosted a vibrant ceremony to mark World Sports Journalists Day, underscoring the critical role of sports media and renewing its dedication to ethical, responsible, and professional journalism. The event, held in Islamabad, brought together prominent figures from the media, sports, and government sectors.
Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar as Chief Guest
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar attended as the chief guest. He cut the commemorative cake alongside senior sports journalists and administered the oath to RISJA's newly elected office-bearers. Addressing the gathering, Tarar lauded sports journalists for highlighting athletes' achievements and described them as an essential pillar of Pakistan's sporting landscape.
Government Pledges Support for Sports Journalists
Tarar assured the fraternity of the government's unwavering support and invited RISJA to submit practical recommendations aimed at improving the welfare of sports journalists. He pledged to personally pursue the implementation of these recommendations. Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination Mohyuddin Wani also acknowledged the media's vital contribution to sports promotion, emphasizing that strong collaboration between journalists and sporting institutions is essential for sustained growth.
Honoring Veterans and Encouraging Young Reporters
The ceremony, supported by Serena Hotels, gathered senior journalists, former athletes, government officials, and representatives of national sports organizations. Veteran sports journalists were honored for their outstanding contributions, while young reporters were encouraged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical reporting in advancing Pakistan's sports journalism.
