The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, has issued a strong warning against unauthorized agents who deceive asylum seekers with false assurances of settlement in the United Kingdom and financial gain. Speaking to a local media outlet on Saturday, she emphasized that genuine applicants must submit their applications exclusively through official online systems to ensure safety and avoid exploitation.
Deceptive Tactics of Illegal Agents
Marriott highlighted the methods used by illegal agents who mislead vulnerable individuals with false promises of migration. These agents often demand money in exchange for deceptive assurances of asylum and settlement opportunities, exploiting the hopes of those seeking a better life abroad.
Rise in Asylum Applications from Pakistan
The High Commissioner expressed concern over the increasing number of Pakistani nationals applying for political asylum in the UK, noting that Pakistanis are now among the top nationalities in such applications. She regretted that many cases stem from misinformation and exploitation by unauthorized intermediaries rather than genuine eligibility.
Official Channels Only
Marriott stressed that genuine applicants should rely solely on official and legal online systems for visa and asylum-related processes, rather than trusting agents who operate outside the law. She warned that fraudulent practices not only cause financial loss but can also severely damage applicants' chances of future legal travel to the UK.
The British High Commission continues to urge all applicants to verify information through official government websites and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
