A new Video-Link Case Hearing and Disposal Office was inaugurated on Tuesday at the headquarters of Lower South Waziristan in Wana, marking a significant advancement in judicial accessibility for the remote district. Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman, District Police Officer Tahir Shah Wazir, and District Bar Association President Abdul Rehman jointly inaugurated the facility.
Virtual Participation by Chief Justice
The ceremony featured virtual attendance by Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Syed Atiq Shah, who joined from Peshawar. Local officials and legal professionals participated from Wana via video link. During a briefing, the Chief Justice learned that the facility would enable litigants from Wana and Ladha to attend court proceedings through video conferencing, significantly reducing travel time, financial costs, and logistical hurdles.
Security and Judicial Improvements
DPO Tahir Shah Wazir praised the initiative as a milestone for judicial services in the region. He noted that Wana already houses a sub-jail with robust security and proposed strengthening the video-link system to facilitate virtual production of prisoners before courts. He assured full security for the office, its staff, and related installations.
Bar Association's Appreciation
District Bar Association President Abdul Rehman thanked the Chief Justice for introducing the facility, stating it would greatly benefit both the people of South Waziristan and the legal community by making the justice system more accessible and efficient.
Call for Permanent Civil Judge
Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman welcomed the initiative, highlighting that Tank, where many judicial proceedings occur, is approximately 130 kilometers from Wana. He stressed the need for a permanent Civil Judge in Wana to further enhance public access to judicial services.
Chief Justice's Assurance
Responding to proposals, Chief Justice Atiq Shah assured that recommendations from the district administration and police would be carefully considered, and appropriate measures would be taken to strengthen the justice delivery system in the region.
