Mohmand admin seeks revision in performance monitoring

The district administration in Mohmand has launched a renewed push to improve municipal services across the district while also calling for revisions to the provincial performance monitoring system to ensure a more accurate assessment of local governance.

Deputy Commissioner Directs Intensified Efforts

Chairing the District Service Delivery (DSD) Monthly Progress Review for April 2026, Deputy Commissioner Yasir Hassan directed all departments to intensify efforts in sanitation, waste management, market regulation and the maintenance of public infrastructure. He said efficient service delivery remained central to good governance and stressed that administrative performance must translate into visible improvements in citizens’ daily lives.

Review of Public Services

The review examined a wide range of public services and facilities, including tehsil offices, agriculture and livestock departments, road networks, drainage systems, public parks, bus terminals, slaughterhouses, cattle and fruit and vegetable markets, as well as waste collection points.

Emphasising the importance of cleanliness and proper management of public spaces, the deputy commissioner instructed officials to prioritise sanitation and environmental hygiene, particularly in commercial and high-traffic areas. He noted that well-maintained municipal services not only improve living standards but also strengthen public confidence in government institutions.

Enhanced Monitoring System

Officials briefed the meeting on ongoing monitoring activities, stating that the district administration had expanded its oversight to include a broader range of urban and rural facilities. The enhanced monitoring system, they said, was intended to improve accountability, identify service gaps and raise standards of public service delivery.

The deputy commissioner directed all relevant departments to address shortcomings identified during inspections and ensure timely corrective action. He also stressed improved coordination between tehsil administrations and line departments to enhance responsiveness at the local level.

Proposed Dashboard Reforms

In a parallel development, the district administration has formally approached the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s Performance Management and Reforms Unit (PMRU), seeking changes to the District Service Delivery Dashboard. In a letter to the PMRU director, the deputy commissioner highlighted discrepancies in the system that do not accurately reflect ground realities in Mohmand and may negatively affect the district’s performance evaluation.

The administration pointed in particular to the inclusion of seasonal fruit and vegetable markets as operational facilities on the dashboard, despite being inactive during certain periods of the year. Officials argued that requiring inspections and reporting for non-operational markets creates a distorted picture of performance and unfairly impacts the district’s ranking.

Proposed Adjustments

They proposed that seasonal markets should be marked inactive during off-season periods or temporarily excluded from monitoring until they become operational again. According to officials, such adjustments would ensure that performance indicators better reflect actual service delivery on the ground and allow for more transparent and evidence-based evaluation.

The district administration said both improved service delivery measures and proposed dashboard reforms were part of its broader effort to strengthen governance, improve institutional efficiency and make public services more responsive to citizens’ needs.
