The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted a widespread spell of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rainfall across upper and several plain regions of the country from June 16 to June 20, 2026.

Weather System to Enter on June 17

According to the weather department, a western weather system is expected to enter northern parts of Pakistan on June 17, triggering unstable weather conditions in multiple areas.

Punjab

Rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and several other districts of Punjab. Southern Punjab districts, including Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Mianwali, and Bhakkar, are also expected to receive rainfall and strong winds during the forecast period.

Gilgit-Baltistan

In northern regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan, widespread rain and stormy conditions are anticipated in Diamer, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghizer, Ghanche, and Shigar.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Similar weather activity is forecast across various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.

Balochistan and Sindh

Parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Quetta, Khuzdar, and Lasbela, are likely to experience rain and windstorms, while Sindh districts such as Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Ghotki may witness thunderstorms. Karachi and Hyderabad are expected to face dusty and gusty winds.

Warnings and Advisories

The Met Office has cautioned that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs, while landslides may occur in hilly regions, particularly in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, potentially affecting road connectivity and traffic flow.

Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities in line with the changing weather conditions, while tourists and travelers heading to northern areas have been urged to remain vigilant. Authorities have also been instructed to stay prepared for any emergency response requirements.

Heatwave to Persist Until June 18

Despite the approaching rain system, most plain areas of the country are expected to remain under severe heatwave conditions until June 18.
