Two girls went missing after leaving their homes in Kot Addu under the pretext of applying for jobs with the Muzaffargarh Police, prompting authorities to launch a search and register a kidnapping case on Sunday.
Details of the Incident
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Mahnoor Bibi and Javeria Bibi, residents of Mauza Chaudhry, left their homes on July 1 after informing their families they were traveling to Muzaffargarh to submit applications for police jobs. The families reported that the girls had not returned home and all attempts to contact them had failed, as both their mobile phones remained switched off.
An FIR was registered at the City Kot Addu police station under Section 365-B of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Muhammad Naseem Khan, the father of Javeria Bibi and a resident of Lalazar Colony. The complainant expressed suspicion that the two girls had been abducted by unidentified persons.
Police Investigation and Clarification
Police said they were investigating the case from multiple angles and had launched efforts to trace the missing girls. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Muzaffargarh Police clarified that no recruitment drive was currently underway in the department and that no hiring process was in progress.
Separate Incident: Youth Missing in Chenab River
In a separate incident, a youth went missing after allegedly jumping into the Chenab River near the Chenab Bridge, prompting rescue teams to launch a search operation, officials said on Sunday. According to Rescue 1122, the incident occurred on Saturday, after which emergency teams rushed to the scene and informed the police. Eyewitnesses said the youth drowned after jumping into the river. He was identified as Muhammad Umair (22), a resident of Nai Abadi Kiyanpur Aliwala in Multan.
District Emergency Officer (DEO) Obaidullah Khan said rescue teams began a search operation immediately after receiving the report. However, the operation was temporarily suspended overnight due to darkness and poor visibility. The search resumed early on Sunday with the assistance of rescue divers, he said, adding that all available resources were being utilised and the operation would continue until the missing youth is located.
