Eight Suspects Flee Court After Bail Rejected in CMO Suicide Case
In a shocking development, all eight suspects named in the suicide case of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Abdul Karim Shaikh fled from the court premises after their bail applications were rejected by the judge on Friday. The incident occurred at the district and sessions court in Mithi, Tharparkar, where the accused had appeared before Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Fazil Bhoyo.
Suspects Escape Despite Court Order
Judge Bhoyo rejected the interim bail pleas of all suspects and ordered them to surrender to the police immediately. However, instead of complying, the accused fled the courtroom and managed to escape from the court premises without any arrest attempts by the police officers present. The suspects include Dr. Harish Jagani, the civil surgeon; Dr. Abdul Malik Nohrio; Dr. Mohan Khatri; Manthar Bheel; Barkat Hingorjo; Section Officer Shafiq Ujjan from the Sindh Health Department; Sardar Bheel; and Rajab Kumbhar.
Viral Videos Capture Escape
Videos that went viral on social media show the suspects, including Section Officer Shafiq Ujjan and Dr. Harish Jagani, walking away from the court unchallenged by police. The footage has ignited widespread condemnation from lawyers, relatives of the victim, and activists, who accuse the police of reluctance to arrest the accused despite the judge's clear orders. Critics argue that the police officers in the desert district of Tharparkar are making a mockery of the judicial process.
Background of the Case
The case stems from the suicide of Dr. Abdul Karim Shaikh, who took his own life a month ago after allegedly being sexually harassed by a male nurse, Manthar Bheel, and then blackmailed by fellow doctors and other paramedics. In his suicide note addressed to high-ups in the Sindh government and voice messages sent to senior journalist Mumtaz Nohrio, Dr. Shaikh held all eight persons responsible for his "unnatural" death. An FIR was registered at Mithi Police Station based on a complaint by Mohammad Saddiq Shaikh, the victim's son.
Public Outrage and Protests
Dr. Shaikh's suicide has been widely condemned by people from various walks of life, leading to protest rallies in multiple cities and towns across Sindh province. The recent court escape has further fueled anger, highlighting concerns over police accountability and the enforcement of law in remote areas. The incident raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the judicial and law enforcement systems in handling sensitive cases involving high-profile suspects.
