Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema and City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani on Tuesday inspected the route of the main 10th Muharram-ul-Haram procession and visited Jamia Darul Uloom Taleem-ul-Quran in Raja Bazaar, which is part of the procession's scheduled route. The top administrators were accompanied by the Superintendent of Police Rawal division, the DSP City circle, and other officers.
Security Directives Issued
The CPO issued directives to officers regarding security arrangements for the procession. The DC and CPO met with administrators Maulana Ata-ul-Haq and Mufti Inamullah at Jamia Darul Uloom Taleem-ul-Quran to discuss security measures during Muharram-ul-Haram. The CPO praised the exemplary role of scholars and elders from all schools of thought in maintaining law and order during this period.
The two officials also prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the former administrator of Jamia Taleem-ul-Quran, Maulana Ashraf Ali, as well as for the progress of the country and the nation. “Rawalpindi Police are ensuring the maintenance of law and order through excellent security arrangements,” said CPO Hamdani.
Deployment of Personnel and Equipment
According to details, the DC and CPO visited the main procession route. The CPO stated that foolproof security arrangements are being made, and Rawalpindi Police are ensuring peace and order through top-tier security deployments. Meanwhile, the garrison city police finalized security arrangements for the main procession of 7th Muharram-ul-Haram. More than 3,500 officers and personnel will perform security and traffic duties, and over 1,000 volunteers will assist law enforcers in security management.
Overall, more than 7,000 officers and personnel are performing security duties during Muharram-ul-Haram. Walk-through gates will be installed at entry points of the procession, and participants will be allowed entry only after a thorough body search, stated the CPO. Monitoring is being carried out through Safe City and other surveillance cameras. Expert snipers will be deployed on rooftops for procession security.
Route Sweeping and Code of Conduct
Prior to the commencement of the procession, searching and sweeping of the route will be conducted, and streets, roads, and other passages along the procession route will be sealed. Full implementation of the code of conduct and orders of the Punjab government will be ensured during Muharram-ul-Haram. All possible measures will be taken to guarantee foolproof security arrangements, CPO Hamdani added.
