Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Thursday reiterated the government's steadfast commitment to protecting the rights of minority communities, emphasizing that consultations with these groups are vital to ensure that legislation and public policies address the needs and concerns of all citizens. He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation representing the Christian community, which was also attended by Azam Nazeer Tarar.
Consultations on Minority Rights and Legal Reforms
According to an official statement, the participants engaged in detailed discussions on minority rights, legal reforms, and issues pertaining to the welfare of the Christian community. The meeting underscored the government's resolve to promote interfaith harmony, equal citizenship, and an inclusive society where every Pakistani can contribute to national development without facing discrimination.

The delegation members expressed appreciation for the government's initiatives to safeguard minority rights and welcomed recent legislative measures, including the Child Marriage Restraint Act. They also acknowledged efforts to promote equal opportunities through the National Commission for Minority Rights.

The meeting reviewed the challenges faced by minority communities and explored ways to address the concerns of the Christian community through appropriate laws and policy measures. Azam Tarar highlighted the importance of the consultative process in advancing comprehensive legal and policy reforms. Both sides agreed to continue consultations on the recommendations presented during the meeting and to develop an effective mechanism for addressing matters related to Christian personal laws and other issues concerning the community.
