The indictment of former Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and other accused in the alleged illegal recruitment case in the Punjab Assembly was deferred once again on Wednesday. The former chief minister failed to appear before the court due to health reasons.
Court Proceedings
During the hearing, counsel for Chaudhry Parvez Elahi submitted a medical certificate, informing the court that his client was unable to attend proceedings owing to illness. As a result of his absence, the court could not frame charges against the accused and adjourned the hearing until June 17.
Anti-Corruption Court Judge Javed Iqbal Waraich conducted the proceedings of the case. The case pertains to alleged irregularities and unlawful appointments made in the Punjab Assembly, in which Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and several others are facing legal proceedings.
Additional Context
This is not the first time the indictment has been deferred. Similar delays have occurred in previous hearings due to the absence of the accused or other legal reasons. The case has drawn significant attention as it involves high-profile political figures and allegations of corruption in public appointments.
