SC Judges to Extend Summer Sitting in Islamabad for Faster Justice
SC Judges Extend Summer Sitting in Islamabad

The judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan have agreed to extend their sitting period at the court's Principal Seat in Islamabad during the summer vacations. This decision follows a request by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and mutual consultation among the judges.

New Arrangement for Summer Recess

Under the new arrangement, the judges have voluntarily decided to maximize their presence in Islamabad during the summer break. In a shift from previous practice, they have also agreed to reduce, where applicable, the time spent sitting at the court's branch registries.

Officials clarified that the duration of vacations actually availed by the judges will remain unchanged at four weeks, consistent with previous years. The initiative is aimed at ensuring greater judicial availability during the summer break and allowing the uninterrupted hearing and disposal of pending cases.

Commitment to Efficiency

According to the court, the decision reflects the collective commitment of the Supreme Court to make better use of its institutional resources, enhance court efficiency, and improve public access to timely and effective justice. The move is expected to help accelerate case proceedings and strengthen the overall performance of the country's highest court during the vacation period.

This step is part of broader efforts to modernize the judiciary, including the recent move to make the Punjab Assembly paperless with tablets installed for members. The Supreme Court's decision underscores its dedication to reducing case backlogs and ensuring that justice is delivered promptly.
