A father and his son were shot dead in Chakri allegedly over a long-standing property dispute between former business partners, according to police and eyewitness accounts on Monday.
Incident Details
Police sources said the incident stemmed from a dispute between Syed Shahzada Tabasum and his former business associate Raja Muhammad Altaf, who had previously been engaged in property dealings together.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), lodged by Syed Umer Farooq, nephew of the deceased, the victims were traveling to Chakri for a funeral when they were intercepted near Sadaa Road late on Sunday night.
The complainant stated that the attackers arrived in a car and opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle in which Shahzada Tabasum and his son, Syed Mustafa Shah, were traveling. Both died on the spot.
Background of the Dispute
Eyewitnesses and local residents said the two families had been at odds for some time over a jointly purchased piece of land. They said the dispute had escalated following an earlier altercation in which both sides had registered cases against each other.
Police said that in that earlier incident, Raja Altaf had alleged he was injured in a confrontation, while Shahzada Tabasum had obtained bail, further intensifying tensions between the two sides.
Separate Development
In a separate development, relatives of Raja Altaf’s brother, Raja Mushtaq, who died of a cardiac arrest on June 14, have called for an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death. Family members alleged he had been taken to Naseerabad police station in connection with the case before his condition deteriorated.
Police, however, said the post-mortem report indicated that Mushtaq died of natural causes, though the family has sought further investigation.
