Lahore police have arrested a fruit vendor in connection with a murder case, according to officials on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Rashid Ahmed, was taken into custody from his stall in the Gulberg area after investigators linked him to the killing of a local shopkeeper.
Details of the Arrest
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Lahore, Muhammad Ali, confirmed that the arrest followed a week-long investigation. "We recovered the murder weapon, a knife, from the suspect's possession and matched his fingerprints with those found at the crime scene," Ali said. The victim, 42-year-old Naveed Khan, was found dead in his electronics shop on February 10.
Police officials stated that CCTV footage from nearby cameras showed Ahmed entering the shop shortly before the murder. Witnesses also reported seeing him arguing with Khan earlier that day. "The evidence strongly points to his involvement," added SSP Ali.
Impact and Context
The arrest has brought some relief to the victim's family, who had been demanding swift action. "We are grateful to the police for their efforts," said Khan's brother, Tariq Khan. However, Ahmed's family maintains his innocence. "He is being framed," claimed his wife, Saima Bibi. The suspect is currently in police custody and will be produced before a judicial magistrate for further proceedings.
