ISLAMABAD - The leader of an inter-provincial burglary gang was killed during an exchange of fire with police in the limits of Golra Police Station on Monday, while three of his accomplices managed to escape, officials said.
Details of the Incident
According to police, a team was conducting routine checking when it signalled a group of suspicious individuals to stop. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party, prompting retaliation. Officials said the police personnel remained unharmed during the incident.
During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects, identified as Alamgir, sustained injuries. He was shifted to hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Criminal Background
Police officials said Alamgir was a wanted criminal with a history of involvement in over 20 cases registered in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was also a previously convicted offender, they added.
Recoveries and Search Operations
A motorcycle allegedly used in criminal activities, two mobile phones and a pistol along with ammunition were recovered from the scene. Police said three of Alamgir’s accomplices fled during the operation, adding that search operations were under way to trace and arrest them.
Further investigation is being carried out, while police said operations against criminal elements would continue across the capital without discrimination.
