Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated on Sunday that the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Jamhooriat Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto is being observed with deep respect and solemnity. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is marking the occasion while considering the sanctity of Muharram-ul-Haram.
Benazir Bhutto's Legacy of Democratic Struggle
Speaking to the media at the Sindh Assembly media corner, Memon described Benazir Bhutto as the 'daughter of the east' who stood firm against the darkness of dictatorship. He highlighted her courage, resilience, and unwavering determination, noting that her legacy of democratic struggle remains unmatched in regional political history.
Memon emphasized that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto devoted her life to strengthening democracy, protecting public rights, and resisting authoritarian rule. Even during imprisonment and political persecution, she never abandoned her commitment to democratic principles, according to the senior minister.
Observance During Muharram
The PPP has chosen to observe the birth anniversary with solemnity, respecting the religious significance of Muharram-ul-Haram. This approach reflects the party's sensitivity to the cultural and religious sentiments of the people.
Benazir Bhutto, who served as the 11th Prime Minister of Pakistan, was assassinated in 2007. Her birthday, August 21, is commemorated by the PPP and her supporters across the country as a day to remember her contributions to democracy and women's empowerment.
