Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has emphatically stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) remains steadfast in its core mission of public service and ensuring national stability, a commitment he promises will continue under Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. The governor made these remarks while addressing a convention of PPP workers on Sunday, reflecting on the party's extensive 58-year political history.
A Legacy of Resilience and Public Welfare
Governor Kundi acknowledged the party's journey through numerous challenges over the decades. He stressed that despite facing many ups and downs, the PPP has consistently worked to resolve the issues of the common people and to strengthen the foundations of democracy in Pakistan. He highlighted the monumental achievement of the country's nuclear programme, which was initiated by the party's founder, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. "It is because of this programme that Pakistan has been able to counter India not only militarily but also diplomatically," Kundi noted, underscoring its critical role in national defence.
Detailing the party's welfare initiatives, the governor pointed to the Sindh government's ongoing efforts to provide housing for low-income families. He also emphasized the significant impact of the Benazir Income Support Programme, which continues to be a lifeline for over one million underprivileged households across the nation. "PPP has always stood for roti, kapra aur makaan and created employment opportunities for the people," he declared, adding that the party had also honored its pledge by reinstating employees who were previously dismissed as a result of political victimization.
Security Challenges and the Call for Coordinated Action
Shifting focus to the pressing security situation, Governor Kundi expressed serious concern over the challenges confronting Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He stressed the urgent necessity for coordinated efforts on both sides of the border to effectively counter the threat posed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He cited the attacks in Islamabad, Dera Ismail Khan, and on the FC Headquarters as acts of the enemy, which were courageously thwarted by Pakistan's security forces. Reaffirming the government's top priority, Kundi stated that restoring lasting peace in the province is an unwavering goal.
The Imperative of Federal-Provincial Harmony
Underlining the importance of a unified national approach, the governor spoke on the essential cooperation required between the federal and provincial governments. "A province cannot function without the federation," he remarked, drawing a poignant contrast in regional priorities. "While Punjab and Sindh compete for development, we are fighting for peace." This statement highlighted the unique and critical struggle for security in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
In his final address to the party workers, Governor Kundi urged for internal unity. He called on members to resolve any differences through constructive dialogue, asserting that discipline and solidarity are fundamental to strengthening the Pakistan Peoples Party's presence and effectiveness within the province.
