Govt reaffirms minority rights commitment, meets Christian delegation

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Thursday reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting minority rights and ensuring that the concerns of all communities are reflected in legislation and public policy. He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation representing the Christian community. Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar also attended the session.

Focus on Minority Welfare and Legal Reforms

The meeting focused on minority rights, legal reforms and issues related to the welfare of the Christian community. Participants discussed challenges faced by minority groups and explored measures to address their concerns through relevant laws and policy initiatives. Attaullah Tarar said the government remained dedicated to promoting interfaith harmony, equal citizenship and an inclusive society where all Pakistanis could contribute to national development without discrimination.

Members of the delegation welcomed the government's efforts to safeguard minority rights and appreciated recent legislative measures, including the Child Marriage Restraint Act. They also acknowledged initiatives aimed at promoting equal opportunities through the National Commission for Minority Rights.

Speaking on the occasion, Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized the importance of consultation in shaping effective legal and policy reforms. He reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens in line with the Constitution. Both sides agreed to continue consultations on recommendations presented during the meeting and work towards developing an effective mechanism to address matters related to Christian personal laws and other community concerns.
