The federal government has announced two-day public holidays across Pakistan on June 25 and 26 (Thursday and Friday) to mark the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, 1448 A.H. (Ashura). The decision was confirmed through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, stating that the prime minister has approved the holidays on the occasion of Ashura.
Scope of the Holidays
The notification specifies that the public holidays will be observed in all public sector offices and educational institutions nationwide, including those that operate on five-day and six-day working weeks. This ensures that both government employees and students can participate in the religious observances.
Implementation and Distribution
The Cabinet Division has forwarded copies of the notification to all ministries, divisions, provincial governments, and relevant administrative departments for wide implementation and publicity. This step ensures that the holiday schedule is uniformly applied across all federal and provincial institutions.
Preparations for Muharram
In a related development, the Additional Commissioner (AC) of Vehari reviewed arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram to ensure smooth observance of the month. Security measures and public facilities are being coordinated to accommodate the large gatherings expected during the Ashura processions.
