The Balochistan Grand Alliance's protest movement continued for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, resulting in the closure of government offices and institutions across the province. The Alliance, a coalition of various employee unions, has been demonstrating since June 17 to press for their legitimate and constitutional demands.
United Front for Demands
Leaders of the Grand Alliance stated that employees remain united in their cause and vowed to sustain the movement until all their demands are accepted. According to a spokesperson, the participation of workers from all departments has been overwhelming, reflecting the widespread support for the protest.
The Alliance strongly condemned the police action during the June 17 protest, which involved shelling and baton charges. They claimed that the use of force was unwarranted and excessive, leading to injuries among several employees.
Demands for Justice and Release
Among the key demands, the Alliance called for immediate justice for employees injured in the clashes. They also demanded the immediate release of more than 50 workers who are still languishing in various jails across the province. The leaders asserted that these detentions are politically motivated and violate the workers' rights to peaceful protest.
The protest has significantly impacted daily operations in the province, with government offices, schools, and other public institutions remaining closed. The Alliance has warned that the movement will intensify if their demands are not met by the authorities.
