The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Tuesday raised multiple objections to the Punjab provincial budget during a meeting with Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. The PPP Parliamentary Leader, Ali Haider Gilani, held discussions with Aurangzeb, who briefed him on the details of the budget.
Budget Briefing and Concerns
During the meeting, Aurangzeb provided an overview of the government's projected income, expenditure allocations, and budgetary provisions for various sectors. Following the briefing, Gilani expressed serious concerns over the government's failure to make meaningful progress on the creation of south Punjab as a separate province.
Agricultural and Farmer Issues
Gilani also criticized the budget for not adequately compensating farmers for their losses and for lacking a comprehensive policy framework to address agricultural challenges. He argued that the largest share of development funds had been allocated to Lahore, while other districts across Punjab were being overlooked.
Suthra Punjab Initiative
Commenting on the provincial government's "Suthra Punjab" initiative, the PPP leader acknowledged some improvement in urban areas but noted that rural regions continued to struggle with poor sanitation and waste management. He highlighted environmental concerns, stating that the absence of proper landfill sites for the disposal of collected waste was contributing to increasing land and air pollution.
