The Punjab cabinet on Tuesday approved the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore.
Chief Minister's Address
Addressing the cabinet session, the chief minister said the government had previously presented a “pro-people” budget and was once again working to formulate a financial plan focused on public welfare and relief. “We had earlier given a people-friendly budget, and this time too we are making every effort to present the best possible budget for the public,” she said.
Maryam Nawaz praised the performance of provincial ministers, noting that they were working with dedication and urged them to continue their efforts in serving the public.
Ongoing Provincial Initiatives
She also highlighted ongoing provincial initiatives, including the ‘Suthra Punjab’ programme and the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ housing scheme, stating that both projects were being implemented effectively across the province.
The chief minister said the government’s priority was to reduce the financial burden on citizens, in line with the broader policy direction of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
Salary and Pension Increases
Earlier, sources in the provincial finance ministry said the government had recommended an increase in salaries and pensions in the upcoming budget.
