The Punjab government has initiated a province-wide crackdown on unregistered private academies and tuition centres, directing education authorities to seal institutions operating without mandatory registration and building safety approvals. Officials stated that the drive aims to ensure compliance with safety regulations and protect students from studying in unsafe premises. In Lahore alone, nearly 760 unregistered academies have been identified for action.
Registration and Safety Requirements
Under the government’s directives, all private academies and tuition centres must obtain registration from the relevant authorities and secure a Building Fitness Certificate issued by the Communication and Works (C&W) Department. Institutions failing to meet these requirements will face immediate closure. The campaign also covers home-based tuition centres operating without official permission. Authorities have warned that such centres will be liable to closure and legal action, including fines, for violating the prescribed regulations.
Ban on Government Teachers
The School Education Department has further reiterated that government school teachers are strictly barred from running or teaching at private academies. Violations will invite disciplinary proceedings. Parents have been urged to verify the registration status of private schools and academies before enrolling their children.
Reporting Complaints
The department said complaints regarding unregistered or unsafe institutions can be lodged through the PEPRIS Complaint and Verification Portal, the SED helpline (042-111-11-20-20), or by emailing pepris@punjab.gov.pk.
