Rawalpindi city police have finalised comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, announcing special search operations, enhanced surveillance, and strict monitoring of social media to maintain law and order during the holy month.
High-Level Meeting at Police Lines
According to a police press release, a high-level meeting was held at Police Lines Headquarters under the chairmanship of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani. The meeting was attended by senior police officers, including the SSP Operations, SSP Investigation, Chief Traffic Officer, SP Headquarters, SP Potohar, SDPOs, and SHOs.
Directives for Foolproof Security
During the meeting, the CPO directed officers to ensure foolproof security arrangements and effective traffic management across the district throughout Muharram. He ordered targeted search operations within the jurisdiction of all police stations under the supervision of respective SDPOs.
The CPO further instructed officials to compile detailed data of tenants residing along the routes of mourning processions, as well as employees working in shops and houses situated on these routes. He emphasised that snap-checking and routine patrols must be intensified, particularly around hotels, inns, and bus terminals.
Use of Digital Applications
The CPO said police digital applications should be actively used for verification during snap-checking, search operations, and data entry at sensitive locations. He also stressed the importance of close monitoring of social media platforms to prevent the spread of hate material during Muharram. Police were directed to maintain continuous liaison with organisers of Majalis and processions to ensure peaceful conduct of religious gatherings.
Adherence to Code of Conduct
The CPO said all measures would be taken in accordance with the Muharram code of conduct and standard operating procedures, adding that all available resources would be utilised to maintain peace and order during the month.
Karwan-e-Aman Reaches Taxila
Meanwhile, a “Karwan-e-Aman” (peace caravan), comprising Rawalpindi police officials and religious scholars representing different schools of thought, reached Taxila as part of efforts to promote inter-sect harmony. Senior police officers, including the SDPO Taxila Circle and SHOs, were present on the occasion.
The caravan included prominent religious scholars such as Hafiz Muhammad Iqbal Rizvi, Khalid Mahmood Abbasi, Abdul Majid Qadri, Qasim Ali Naqvi, Sahibzada Usman Ghani, Allama Asghar Babar, Qazi Junaid Rashid, Aoun Abbas Kazmi, Atiq-ur-Rehman Shah, and Maulana Shoaib Siddique.
Message of Peace and Brotherhood
Speaking on the occasion, the scholars said the caravan carried a message of peace, brotherhood, and tolerance, and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting harmony during Muharram. They said that, as in previous years, they would continue their efforts with renewed dedication to ensure an atmosphere of peace, mutual respect, and religious harmony throughout the month.
