The Sindh government has officially declared June 25 and 26, 2026—Thursday and Friday—as public holidays across the province on the occasion of Ashura, according to a notification issued by the Sindh Information Department on Monday. The notification states that these dates correspond to Muharram 9 and 10, 1448 AH, and that all offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government will remain closed, with the exception of those providing essential services.
Security Measures Ordered by Chief Minister
Last week, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed authorities to ensure foolproof security for Muharram processions and majalis across the province. He instructed uninterrupted civic services and comprehensive arrangements for the holy month. The chief minister affirmed that maintaining law and order and facilitating mourners remain the government's top priority, warning that no negligence or lapse in arrangements would be tolerated.
Inter-Agency Coordination and Religious Harmony
Reviewing security and facilitation measures for processions and majalis, CM Shah directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure effective inter-agency coordination. He also instructed officials to incorporate proposals given by religious scholars into the final arrangements for the month. Additionally, he directed K-Electric, HESCO, and SEPCO to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply during religious gatherings and to avoid load-shedding along procession routes. The chief minister stressed religious harmony and inter-sect unity, urging all stakeholders to work jointly for the peaceful observance of Muharram. He stated that the government would utilise all available resources to ensure the protection of lives and property across the province during the blessed month.
