Syed Zain Shah, President of Sindh United Party and Vice Chairman of Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain Pakistan, has accused the Sindh government of betraying the province. In a video statement issued on Saturday, he criticized the recently announced budget for 2026–27, saying it presents a misleading picture of development while depriving Sindh of its due resources.
Poverty and Underdevelopment in Sindh
Shah highlighted that Sindh continues to suffer from poverty, underdevelopment, and a lack of basic facilities. He noted that nearly 33 percent of the province's population lives below the poverty line, and millions cannot afford even two meals a day. He argued that the budget falsely projects Sindh as developed enough to transfer trillions of rupees to the federal government as grants.
Objections to Budget Allocations
Shah objected to the reported transfer of budget surplus to the Centre and the allocation of approximately Rs120 in petroleum taxes collected on fuel to the federal government. He demanded that the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership and the Sindh government publicly acknowledge what he termed as a deception with the people of Sindh.
Development Budget and Basic Services
He claimed that the upcoming development budget has been eliminated, along with allocations for research institutions. Shah suggested that the government implies major cities like Karachi no longer require investment in drainage, water supply, health, and education, as the province has already been declared developed. He called for transparency and accountability in the budget process.
