The election campaign for the Gilgit-Baltistan general elections officially concluded at midnight on Friday, with voters set to cast their ballots on Sunday, June 7. According to official details, a total of 396 candidates are in the race for 24 constituencies across the region. Among them are 266 independent candidates, while seven women candidates are also contesting the elections.
To facilitate the voting process, the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has established 1,368 polling stations throughout the region. Of the total polling stations, 480 have been classified as highly sensitive, 350 as sensitive, and 457 as normal based on security assessments.
The total number of registered voters in Gilgit-Baltistan stands at 958,780. This includes 503,772 male voters and 454,708 female voters. Meanwhile, the provincial administration has finalized all security arrangements to ensure peaceful and transparent polling. Authorities said around 15,000 police personnel will be deployed across the region to maintain law and order and provide security during the election process.
With campaigning now over, candidates and political parties are awaiting polling day as voters prepare to elect their representatives for the next Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
