PDMA Issues Heatwave Alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Districts
PDMA Heatwave Alert for KP Districts June 8-11

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning that temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal from June 8 to June 11. According to the advisory, temperatures across most parts of the province are likely to stay 4°C to 6°C higher than seasonal averages during the four-day period.

Districts at Highest Risk

The southern districts of Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu and Karak are expected to experience the most intense heat, with temperatures potentially reaching 46°C. In Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi and Haripur, temperatures may climb to around 45°C.

Precautionary Measures

The PDMA has directed local authorities to establish heatstroke prevention centres and cooling points in vulnerable areas, while Rescue 1122 and fire brigade services have been placed on high alert to handle emergencies. The authority also warned that extreme heat could trigger dust storms and strong winds. It noted that prolonged dry weather may increase pressure on water reservoirs and accelerate snowmelt in upper regions of the province.
