A severe windstorm on Monday caused high-transmission electricity lines to collapse onto the M-5 Motorway near Rahim Yar Khan, leading to a significant disruption of traffic and the immediate closure of several sections for heavy vehicles.
Incident Details
According to Motorway Police officials, the incident occurred at Point 510, where high-voltage cables fell across both the Northbound and Southbound tracks, posing a lethal risk to commuters. As a precautionary measure, the Motorway Police have suspended the entry of heavy transport vehicles and public service transport from Rohri to Rahim Yar Khan.
Traffic Diversion Measures
Furthermore, northbound traffic originating from Rohri and Panno Aqil has been strictly diverted to prevent any untoward incidents. To facilitate the flow of commuters, the Motorway Police have established diversion points at Iqbalabad and Guddu.
