The enforcement teams of Punjab Food Authority (PFA), acting on the directives of Director General Syed Musa Raza, conducted a widespread crackdown across various areas of Lahore. During the operation, raids were carried out at 30 food points and units, resulting in fines totaling Rs216,000 imposed on 14 food businesses for violating food safety regulations and failing to comply with previously issued instructions.
Inspection at Tollinton Market
Food safety teams inspected chicken suppliers at Tollinton Market during the early morning hours and discarded 3,755 kilograms of dead chickens. Veterinary specialists performed a detailed examination of the poultry and declared it unfit for human consumption.
Additional Violations Found
Teams also imposed heavy fines on food businesses due to the presence of cats, flies, and mosquitoes, poor sanitation arrangements, and rusty and unhygienic freezers.
PFA Director General's Statement
DG Syed Musa Raza stated that the PFA is conducting day and night operations to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to the public. He emphasized that strict compliance with food safety laws is mandatory for all food businesses operating in Punjab. He further asserted that elements playing with public health deserve no leniency and will face stringent action under the law.
Surprise Inspections Across Province
Raza added that surprise inspections of renowned food chains are being carried out across the province to ensure compliance with food safety standards and to protect consumers from unsafe food practices.
