Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meets for Zilhaj Moon Sighting

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is meeting in Karachi to sight the Zilhaj moon, which will determine the date of Eid ul Adha in Pakistan. Zonal committees are also holding simultaneous sessions in Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, and Peshawar. The main meeting is being chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad at the Meteorological Department office in Karachi.

Astronomical Predictions for Moon Sighting

According to astronomical experts, the new moon was born at 1:01am on May 17, and by sunset its age will be around 18 hours and 34 minutes, making sighting possible under suitable conditions. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has indicated strong chances of moon sighting today, noting clear skies over Karachi that could improve visibility.
