A drone attack in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province killed three people and injured 10 others, all from the same family, police reported on Thursday. The incident occurred in the Damadola area of Bajaur district, which borders Afghanistan, on the night of July 1-2.
Victims and Response
District police spokesman Muhammad Israr confirmed the casualties: three dead, including a five-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, and a 30-year-old man, and 10 injured. The injured were taken to District Headquarters Hospital Khar in Bajaur. Israr stated that investigations are underway to determine the origin of the attack.
Rising Drone Attacks in the Region
No group has claimed responsibility, but Pakistani officials have previously noted that armed groups, particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), increasingly use commercial drones modified to drop explosives. Bajaur has seen multiple such attacks recently; on June 28, a drone attack killed a child and injured a woman in the Wara Mamond area. In April, a quadcopter attack in Hangu district killed one police officer and injured another.
Cross-Border Incursions
Separately, Pakistan's military reported on Wednesday that it intercepted and destroyed four drones launched from Afghanistan into Balochistan province. These incidents are part of a series of cross-border incursions amid a surge in militancy in Pakistan's western regions bordering Afghanistan.
