England World Cup Squad Training Equipment Stolen
DUBAI: England’s World Cup squad faced an unexpected setback when their training equipment was stolen ahead of their arrival in Kansas City on Saturday. The Football Association confirmed that items such as balls and boots were taken after vehicles transporting equipment to the Swope Soccer Village base were broken into.
England coach Thomas Tuchel and his squad are scheduled to arrive in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon, with the equipment meant to be ready beforehand. Police are investigating the incident and have made two arrests. A Kansas Police spokesperson stated: "We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening. The investigation is ongoing."
The theft could potentially disrupt some of Tuchel's preparations for their World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday. However, The Athletic reported on Saturday afternoon that several items of the stolen training kit, mainly footwear, have been recovered by England. The Three Lions will also play Ghana on June 23 in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and Panama on June 27 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
