Rockstar Addresses GTA 6 Physical Edition Concerns
Rockstar Games has responded to growing concerns over the physical edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 after reports emerged that launch copies would include a download code instead of a game disc. The clarification comes after pre-orders for the highly anticipated title opened, revealing pricing and edition details that left some fans disappointed.
The standard edition of GTA 6 is priced at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99 and includes additional pre-order bonuses such as exclusive in-game stores and a single-player mission. However, attention quickly shifted to the physical edition when pre-order listings indicated that buyers would receive a code to download the game rather than a disc. This sparked criticism from players who prefer collecting physical media.
Reports Suggest Temporary Code-in-Box Strategy
According to Polish outlet ppe.pl, citing its source Graczdari, players who pre-order the physical edition before the game's November 19 launch will initially receive a download code, while a second production run featuring discs could follow in December. "The code will be a one-off run, followed by the option of a disc release," the outlet reported, citing Graczdari.
Rockstar Support confirmed that GTA 6 physical disc copies will be available in the months following launch. In a statement, the support team said: "You will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months." The current physical pre-orders are for the digital code-in-box version.
Unconfirmed Reports and Fan Reactions
The report remains unconfirmed. While Graczdari has previously shared accurate information, the source has also made incorrect claims in the past and was later banned from the GTA Forums. Meanwhile, some fans have shared responses they say they received from Rockstar Support regarding the issue. According to screenshots circulating online, Rockstar Support told customers they would be able to "obtain a physical copy in the following months." The response does not specifically mention a disc, leaving uncertainty over what form a future physical copy may take.
Implications for Physical Media Collectors
The situation highlights the ongoing tension between digital distribution and physical media in the gaming industry. For many fans, owning a physical disc is a key part of the collecting experience, and the initial lack of a disc in the physical edition was a major point of contention. Rockstar's confirmation that discs will eventually be available may alleviate some concerns, but the delay and uncertainty have left some players cautious about pre-ordering.
