India Triumphs Over Pakistan in U18 Hockey Asia Cup Semifinal
In a thrilling encounter at the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Hockey Stadium in Kakamigahara, India secured a place in the final of the U18 Hockey Asia Cup 2026 by defeating Pakistan 5-3 in the semifinal on Friday. The match was a showcase of skill, determination, and high drama, with India emerging victorious after a closely contested battle.
India drew first blood in the 12th minute when Purti Ashish Tani converted a penalty stroke. The on-field decision was upheld after a video review, giving India an early lead. Pakistan responded positively and leveled the score just before halftime, with Adeel finishing clinically to make it 1-1.
The third quarter saw both teams trading goals. India regained the lead through Ali Shahrukh in the 35th minute, but Pakistan hit back almost immediately as M Farhan Aslam found the net to make it 2-2. The Green Shirts then moved ahead when Uzair Ahmed converted a penalty corner in the 42nd minute, giving Pakistan a 3-2 advantage.
However, India dominated the final quarter. Tani equalized from a penalty corner before completing his hat-trick to restore India's lead. He later added another goal to cap a brilliant individual performance, securing a 5-3 victory for his side. The win sends India into the U18 Hockey Asia Cup final, where they will face Japan.
