Inter Milan are on the brink of securing the Serie A title this Sunday, with a victory over Parma at San Siro guaranteeing the championship. Cristian Chivu's side holds a 10-point lead over second-placed Napoli and a 12-point advantage over AC Milan, with only four matches remaining.
The Nerazzurri could even be crowned champions before they take the field if Napoli lose at Como on Saturday and AC Milan fail to beat Sassuolo earlier on Sunday. A draw against Parma might also suffice, depending on other results.
This would mark Chivu's first managerial trophy. The former Inter defender, who was part of the treble-winning squad in 2010, has impressed in his debut senior coaching role. “I know what players go through and what it means to play for Inter,” Chivu said. “You have to embrace them, tell the truth, and remain consistent. The credit goes to the players for embracing everything we asked.”
Inter have enjoyed a dominant season, recording 25 wins, scoring 80 league goals, and over 100 in all competitions. They could also secure a double, facing Lazio in the Italian Cup final on May 13.
Key Matchups
Behind Inter, the race for Champions League spots is intense. Fourth-placed Juventus are only three points above Como and Roma, while trailing third-placed Milan by three points. Juventus host Hellas Verona on Sunday, and Roma welcome Fiorentina on Monday.
At the bottom, Pisa face relegation if they lose to Lecce. Cremonese, one point above the drop zone, host Lazio, while Verona are 10 points from safety.
Players to Watch
Inter midfielder Federico Dimarco set a record for most assists in a single Serie A season (18) after setting up both goals in a 2-2 draw at Torino. Teammate Lautaro Martinez returns from injury, having missed eight of the last nine league matches with a calf problem. The World Cup winner scored twice against Roma and returned to training on Wednesday.
AC Milan midfielder Luka Modric will miss the final four rounds after breaking his cheekbone against Juventus. The Croatia captain underwent surgery and faces a race to recover for the World Cup.
Off the Field
Italian football is shaken by a refereeing scandal. Gianluca Rocchi, head of Serie A and B referees, is under investigation for alleged sports fraud, along with VAR supervisor Andrea Gervasoni. It is alleged Rocchi influenced VAR decisions and assigned referees favored by Inter in 2024-25. No players or club officials have been implicated.
