Pakistan's senior tennis players continued their impressive performance at the ITF Masters MT200 Tennis Tournament in Oxford, Great Britain. Shehryar Salamat secured the men's 45+ doubles title, while Rashid Malik advanced to two finals.
Shehryar Salamat Wins Doubles Crown
Shehryar Salamat, partnering Great Britain's Jason Donoghue, dominated the final against Gregg Cooper of Great Britain and Deepak Singh of India, winning 6-1, 6-2. The pair's commanding performance earned them the prestigious doubles crown.
Rashid Malik Reaches Two Finals
Pakistan's leading ITF senior player, Rashid Malik, kept alive his hopes of defending two titles. He reached the men's 60+ singles final and the men's 55+ doubles final. In a gripping doubles semifinal, Malik and British partner Simon Elliott staged a remarkable comeback to edge Jeff Claridge and Colin Piper of Great Britain 6-2, 6-7, 12-10.
“This was one of the toughest matches I have played in recent years,” Malik said. “We were 8-3 down but bounced back and saved two crucial points in the super tiebreak to win 12-10 against the top seeds and qualify for the final. I am hopeful of defending both my singles and doubles titles for my country and the tennis community.”
