The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced significant reforms to its central contracts system, introducing a new structure designed to align with modern cricket demands. According to the PCB, the revamped system will feature multiple tracks to categorize players based on format specialization.
New Contract Tracks
Under the newly announced system, Track A will be reserved for red-ball specialists, focusing on Test cricket. Tracks B and C will include players specializing in One Day Internationals and T20 cricket, respectively. Track D will cater to emerging and academy players under the development category.
Performance-Based Contracts
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that 85 percent of player contracts will be performance-based, stressing that achieving good results is a collective responsibility. He noted that domestic cricket data is being incorporated into the evaluation process to ensure fairness and transparency.
Naqvi stated that the board is providing all necessary resources for cricket development. While bilateral series results have been encouraging, he acknowledged that performance in tournaments has not been satisfactory, and efforts are underway to address this.
Fitness and Domestic Cricket
The PCB chairman expressed support for conducting fitness tests in front of the media to ensure accountability. He also highlighted that the selection committee has a significant workload, and players are being required to participate in domestic cricket. Naqvi warned that non-participation would have consequences.
He confirmed that every detail has been thoroughly documented, and players have been fully briefed on the new system. According to him, players have given positive feedback and are now fully aware that no one will claim they were placed in the wrong category.
Modern Cricket Demands
Naqvi concluded that the identity, importance, and requirements of each format have been recognized, and the new model has been developed in line with the evolving demands of modern cricket. The changes aim to enhance performance and ensure that Pakistan cricket remains competitive across all formats.
