Princess of Wales Watches British Hopefuls at Wimbledon

Catherine, Princess of Wales, attended the Wimbledon Tennis Championships on Thursday, July 2, 2026, to support British hopefuls Arthur Fery and Katie Swan. Dressed in a blue trouser suit, the 44-year-old royal mingled with crowds and watched matches in the warm London sunshine.

Arthur Fery's Victory on Court 18

The princess first watched Arthur Fery, a 23-year-old wildcard, compete against Finnish qualifier Otto Virtanen on Court 18. Fery won the match 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-3, 6-3. In a courtside interview, Fery expressed surprise at the royal presence, stating, “I didn’t know she was here. I probably would have been a bit more tight if I did.” He added, “There is lots of support at home in the UK so it’s fantastic to play in front of them. It’s great to do it for the UK. Selfishly I am doing it for myself first — but I’m always behind the other players and wishing them success.”

Katie Swan's Match on Court One

Later, the princess moved to Court One, accompanied by double Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, to watch Katie Swan face 26th seed Madison Keys of the United States. Swan, 27, also a wildcard after a back problem threatened her career, struggled against Keys, who won 6-1, 6-4. Keys, the 2025 Australian Open champion and twice a Wimbledon quarter-finalist, had recently won the Eastbourne grasscourt title and proved too powerful for Swan.

Royal Engagement and Other British Players

The princess, an enthusiastic tennis fan and patron of the All England Club, earlier spoke to people queuing early to enter the grounds and chatted with ticket office workers. Fery and Swan were among four Britons in action on Thursday, alongside Jacob Fearnley and Jan Choinski.
