Rawalpindi Tigers Trials: 10,000 Attend, 20 Chosen

The Rawalpindi Tigers open trials drew an overwhelming response, with more than 10,000 aspiring cricketers from Rawalpindi and surrounding regions gathering at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This event ranks among the largest talent identification programmes conducted in Pakistan in recent years.

Inauguration and Selection Process

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi inaugurated the trials. His collaboration with Lahore Qalandars brought the initiative to Rawalpindi, aiming to provide young athletes a structured platform to showcase their skills and pursue professional opportunities.

The day-long exercise was supervised by Lahore Qalandars’ talent hunt and coaching team, which conducted a comprehensive and merit-based evaluation. After an extensive initial screening, approximately 140 players advanced to the second phase, where their technical skills, fitness levels, and overall cricketing potential were closely examined.

Final Squad and Development Programme

The selection process became increasingly competitive, narrowing the pool to 35 standout performers before the final squad of 20 players was chosen. Officials emphasised that selections were made strictly on merit, with every participant receiving an equal opportunity to impress the selectors.

The successful players will now join the Lahore Qalandars player development programme and receive professional coaching at the Smart Qalandars High Performance Centre in Capital Smart City, Islamabad. The programme focuses on skill enhancement, fitness development, and performance monitoring under experienced coaches.

Global Super League Opportunity

Adding further incentive, one player from the selected group will earn the opportunity to travel with the Lahore Qalandars squad to the Global Super League in Guyana, gaining valuable exposure to elite-level franchise cricket and international competition.

Organisers described the trials as a significant step towards identifying and nurturing emerging talent from Rawalpindi. The initiative not only marks the foundation of the Rawalpindi Tigers squad but also provides a clear pathway for promising cricketers to progress to higher levels of the game.
