Defending champion Iga Swiatek produced a commanding response to her nervy opening match, dismantling former world number one Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 6-3 to reach the third round of Wimbledon 2026 in emphatic fashion on Thursday. The Polish star, who had struggled with emotions in her first-round victory, looked far more composed and clinical at the All England Club, wrapping up the match in just 70 minutes.

Swiatek said she approached the contest with a reset mindset, treating it as “another day at the office” after her earlier struggles. She will next face rising Filipina talent Alexandra Eala, who made history by becoming the first woman from the Philippines to reach the third round of a Grand Slam after a three-set win over Maya Joint.
