The University of Lahore (UoL) emerged victorious in the All Pakistan Inter-University Women’s Football Championship, beating Women University Lahore 2-1 in a tightly contested final at the Peshawar Board Ground. The five-day tournament, organized by the Directorate of Sports at Islamia College Peshawar, featured eight university teams from across Pakistan, underscoring the increasing prominence of women’s football at the collegiate level.
Final Match Highlights
The final saw both teams level at 1-1 at halftime. UoL netted the decisive goal in the closing stages of the second half to secure the championship trophy. In the third-place playoff, UoL defeated the University of Management and Technology 3-1.
Participating Teams and Ceremony
Participating institutions included Lahore College for Women University, Superior University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Garrison University, and Government College University Lahore. Brigadier Mubashir Abbasi attended the closing ceremony as chief guest and distributed trophies, medals, and prizes among the winning teams and outstanding players. Other guests included Malik Latif, Chief Coordination Officer of North West Hospital; Peshawar Board Director Sports Manzar Khan; former Pakistan football captain Colonel (retd) Nauman; and Director Sports Islamia College Peshawar Ali Hoti.
Inauguration and Significance
The championship was inaugurated by Dr. Ziaul Haq, Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Participants and officials praised the organizers for successfully hosting the event, describing it as a significant step towards promoting women’s sports in the country.
