HBO Max Orders Adventure Time Spin-Off

New Spin-Off Announced at Annecy Festival

HBO Max has officially ordered Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline, a new animated spin-off expanding the beloved Adventure Time universe. The announcement was made during the Warner Bros. Animation showcase at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, marking one of the event’s biggest television reveals. The upcoming series has received a 10-episode straight-to-series order and will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios in partnership with HBO Max.

Plot and Characters

According to information shared with Variety, the show will follow fan-favourite characters Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen as they embark on a new adventure across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering familiar faces and new threats along the way. Princess Bubblegum and Marceline have remained two of the franchise’s most popular characters since their relationship was confirmed in the original series finale in 2018. Their return as central characters is expected to generate significant excitement among fans and further strengthen the Adventure Time brand.

Creative Team

Emmy-winning Adventure Time veteran Adam Muto will return as showrunner and executive producer. Muto previously worked on the acclaimed spin-offs Adventure Time: Distant Lands and Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, both of which helped extend the franchise’s popularity among longtime fans. The series will also be executive produced by Fred Seibert and Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.
