Xbox Employees to Get @xbox.com Email Addresses Next Month

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is taking significant steps to unify the Xbox brand. In a move to reinforce the message that 'We are Xbox,' the company is providing all Xbox employees with @xbox.com email addresses starting next month. This change follows last week's decision to rename Microsoft Gaming to simply Xbox.

New Email Policy for Xbox Employees

According to sources at Xbox, employees will receive an @xbox.com email address that will become the default for sending new emails, replacing the existing @microsoft.com address. However, employees have the option to opt-out and keep their Microsoft email as the default send-from address. Mojang employees will also get @mojang.com email addresses, while all employees will retain their @microsoft.com email aliases.

Strengthening Xbox Identity

An internal Xbox memo, seen by The Verge, states that the change is part of 'strengthening the Xbox identity inside and outside of Microsoft.' This move aims to give Xbox employees a unified email appearance, similar to Activision and Bethesda employees who already use their own domain names. Previously, some Xbox employees could request @xbox.com addresses from Microsoft's IT department, but this is the first time the company is actively pushing these aliases to all gaming employees.

Part of the 'We Are Xbox' Effort

The email changes are part of a broader 'We Are Xbox' initiative. In a joint memo with Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty, Sharma outlined the vision for Xbox's future, emphasizing daily active players and priorities in hardware, content, experience, and services. The memo also confirmed the end of the Microsoft Gaming name.

This strategic move underscores Microsoft's commitment to a cohesive Xbox brand, aligning internal identity with external perception.
