Peshawar – Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday underscored the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare and medical education, saying the technology was opening new avenues for disease diagnosis, treatment and professional training.
Addressing the Healthcare Education Artificial Intelligence Summit at Rehman Medical Institute (RMI), Hayatabad, he said Pakistan must embrace emerging technologies to strengthen its health and education sectors and improve public service delivery.
The Governor observed that AI was revolutionising healthcare by enabling more accurate and timely diagnoses, enhancing treatment outcomes and expanding learning opportunities for medical students and healthcare professionals. He said the integration of AI into medical education was helping students prepare for future challenges and keep pace with rapid global advancements in healthcare.
Emphasising the importance of innovation-driven development, Mr Kundi called for greater investment in research, technological innovation and digital skills across universities and medical institutions. He stressed that equipping young people with modern knowledge and technological expertise was essential to addressing emerging challenges effectively.
The Governor said the responsible and ethical use of AI was crucial, adding that technological advancements should complement human capabilities rather than replace them. Despite rapid progress in technology, he maintained that compassion, humanity and professional competence would remain the cornerstone of quality healthcare services.
Mr Kundi also urged researchers, healthcare experts and academic institutions to strengthen collaboration in order to promote innovation and contribute to the development of a healthier and more prosperous Pakistan. He described the summit as a timely initiative that would help advance knowledge, research and innovation in the country’s healthcare and education sectors.
