Netflix has rolled out a redesigned mobile app, introducing a vertical video feed called Clips to help users quickly discover shows, movies, and games. The update was announced on Thursday, May 1, 2026.
New Features and User Experience
The new Clips feature offers a TikTok-style feed of short, personalized clips from series, films, and specials. Users can add titles directly to their 'My List,' share recommendations via text or social media, or explore content that catches their eye without endless scrolling.
Elizabeth Stone, Netflix's chief product and technology officer, stated: 'Mobile is an important part of how Netflix members stay connected to the entertainment they love. Our vision is to make our mobile experience as entertaining as what you watch, delivering increasingly personalized, immersive experiences for any mood or moment.'
Strategic Context
The update comes at a turbulent time for the streaming giant. Netflix recently withdrew from the bidding war to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, paving the way for Paramount Skydance to secure a $110.9 billion merger. Additionally, co-founder Reed Hastings stepped down as chairman.
Netflix is now betting on a more immersive mobile experience to keep users engaged during commutes, lunch breaks, and other in-between moments. The changes build on last year's major TV interface overhaul, Netflix's first in over a decade.
Future Plans
Future updates will expand Clips to include podcasts, live programming, and genre-based collections like romance. The new experience is initially available in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa, with a global rollout, including the Arab region, to follow in the coming months.
