Lenovo's Major MWC 2026 Announcement: Six New Laptops with Focus on Detachable Tablet
Lenovo has made a significant announcement ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, revealing five new ThinkPad models and one new ThinkBook laptop. This comprehensive refresh of their business and productivity lineup introduces various chip upgrades and design enhancements, but the standout device is undoubtedly the ThinkPad X13 Detachable, marking a major update to Lenovo's tablet-style ThinkPad after several years since the X12 Detachable.
The Complete New Lineup and Pricing
The newly announced devices, along with their starting prices, are as follows:
- ThinkPad T14S Gen 7 ($1,899)
- ThinkPad T14S 2-in-1 Gen 2 ($1,849)
- ThinkPad T16 Gen 5 ($1,799)
- ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 ($1,799)
- ThinkPad X13 Detachable ($1,999)
- ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 6 ($1,754)
All these devices are scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2026, with the exception of the X13 Detachable, which is set to launch in the third quarter of the same year.
X13 Detachable: The Star of the Show
The ThinkPad X13 Detachable represents the most significant redesign in Lenovo's detachable tablet lineup in years. Compared to its predecessor, it features several notable improvements:
- Processor Options: Intel Panther Lake chip configurations
- Display Enhancement: A larger 13-inch touchscreen with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 2880 x 1920 resolution, and 120Hz variable refresh rate
- Keyboard Upgrade: The keyboard cover now includes more contoured, full-size keycaps with a deeper 1.5mm key travel, providing a typing experience comparable to traditional ThinkPad keyboards
- Stylus Integration: The stylus is now housed within the keyboard itself, charging via pogo pins instead of relying on a AAAA battery and external attachment
These improvements address key limitations of the previous generation, particularly the stylus storage and battery dependency.
Other ThinkPad Models: T14 and T16 Series
The new ThinkPad T14 and T16 models feature reduced bezels around their displays compared to previous generations. Both models offer configuration options with the latest Intel and AMD processors:
- Intel Variants: Panther Lake chips with LPCAMM2 RAM instead of traditional DDR5, offering improved power efficiency while maintaining upgradeability and easier repairability
- AMD Variants: Gorgon Point processors
Additionally, both the T14 and T16 models feature user-replaceable batteries, enhancing their repairability and longevity.
ThinkPad T14S: The Lightweight Champion
The new ThinkPad T14S model claims the title of the lightest T-series ThinkPad to date, weighing just 2.43 pounds (1.1kg), which is lighter than even a MacBook Air. This model offers the most flexible configuration options:
- Intel Panther Lake processors
- AMD Gorgon Point processors
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Plus or X2 Elite processors
The T14S is also available in a slightly heavier 2-in-1 version, though this variant will only come with Intel Panther Lake chips. The same processor limitation applies to the new ThinkBook 14 2-in-1.
Operating System and Regional Availability
All new laptops will ship with Windows 11 as the standard operating system. However, the ThinkPad T14, T14S, T16, and X13 Detachable will also be available with Linux in certain regions. The exception to this is the Qualcomm-based T14S model, which will run Windows on Arm architecture.
This comprehensive refresh of Lenovo's business laptop lineup demonstrates the company's commitment to innovation in both form factor and functionality, with particular attention to user experience improvements in their detachable tablet offering.
