The Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority (SME Authority) celebrated the graduation of 33 startups specializing in artificial intelligence as part of the first cohort of its AI incubator program. The ceremony took place at the SMEs Support Center in Riyadh, marking a significant milestone for the Kingdom's AI ecosystem.
Program Objectives and Support
The program was designed to encourage innovation, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and increase local content within the AI sector. It serves as an advanced incubator for AI-driven ventures, operated in partnership with the National Technology Development Program (NTDP). The collaboration aimed to support AI product development and facilitate market growth for emerging companies.
Over a six-month period, the SME Authority provided participants with comprehensive services and development support. This included mentorship, technical assistance, and resources to strengthen entrepreneurial capabilities from the ideation stage through to market entry. The structured support system was intended to bridge the gap between concept and commercialization for AI startups.
Diverse Sector Representation
The graduating startups represented a wide range of sectors, demonstrating the versatility of AI applications. The eight sectors covered were: enterprise and business solutions; healthcare; heritage, culture and tourism; fintech and trading; infrastructure and logistics; entrepreneurship enablement; e-commerce; and education and development. This diversity highlights the potential of AI to transform various industries within the Kingdom.
The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's broader goals of economic diversification and technological advancement under Vision 2030. By nurturing AI startups, the program contributes to building a knowledge-based economy and reducing reliance on oil revenues.
