Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sarmad Saleem Akram has declared that the district administration is working in close coordination with all relevant departments to protect citizens' lives and property, improve the sewerage and drainage system, and eliminate encroachments, warning that no negligence or laxity in this regard will be tolerated.
Inspection Under Good Governance Roadmap
The Deputy Commissioner made these remarks while leading a detailed inspection of various locations across Abbottabad city as part of the Provincial Government’s Good Governance Roadmap and District Service Delivery initiative. The initiative aims to prevent flash floods, improve sewerage infrastructure, clean drainage channels, and remove encroachments.
During the visit, DC Abbottabad was accompanied by Chairman District Reconciliation Committee (DRC) Ayaz Saleem Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner Relief Amanullah Saeed, Assistant Commissioner Abbottabad Afrasiab Zubair Hundal, representatives of the Cantonment Board, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Irrigation Department, Revenue officials, and other stakeholders.
Key Locations Inspected
The team inspected several key locations including Band Khoo Chowk on Link Road, Kehal Chowk, Sena Laboratory, Chinar Road, Hassan Town, Jab Nala, and Mandian Akash Rabbani (Old Missile Chowk). Officials identified encroachments over drainage channels, sewerage-related issues, water flow obstructions, and critical choke points that could contribute to urban flooding during heavy rains.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that all identified problems must be addressed promptly to ensure public safety and prevent any loss of life or property due to flash floods. He directed the concerned departments to work on a war footing to clear drainage channels and remove illegal encroachments.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Akram warned that no negligence or laxity would be tolerated in the execution of these tasks. He said that the district administration would regularly monitor the progress and take strict action against any officials found responsible for delays or poor performance.
The inspection was part of a broader provincial initiative to improve governance and service delivery at the district level. The Good Governance Roadmap focuses on key areas such as infrastructure development, public safety, and efficient service delivery to citizens.
